Preliminary Task and Report.

Preliminary task.

The main idea for our preliminary task is that we wanted to do a twist on an thriller and a sci-fi, as we thought that its best if we got some experience in the thriller genre as that is our main topic for our main task. We based our idea on a mad scientist and 'a big test'. This would be a very dramatic scene and build a lot of tension up until the end where we decided to leave it at a cliff hanger, making the viewer confused and left with the question of what the test actually was, this making it more effective.

I was pleased with many things and felt that the end of our film, where it suddenly ended and switched to a dialogue between two people who didn't seem to be involved in the beginning, this is effective as it leaves the audience guessing on what happened and keeps them on edge and anxious with many questions still left unanswered. This gives me ideas for our main task as now I know that working on the ending is very important and can impact the film because it has great effect on the viewer.

Another thing that went well was the editing process, I was exceptionally pleased with the part where our actor Katie, where she was walking through the double doors and we used two different camera angles which showed match on action as the action carried through on shot onto the next, this allows it too be more interesting for the viewer and not seeing the same shot each time which could get boring for the viewer.

We have learnt many new things and gained knowledge from our experience working as a group filming, editing and planning. During all of our planning we learnt about all different camera shots and how to incorporate those into our planning, an example of this would be how when we started we knew we had to include match on action, but it was finding the right place where to put that so when my group were story boarding, we were discussing this whilst thinking of new ideas and plots. My group and I realized soon into filming that we needed to assign each person a role so that everybody would be completely involved, whilst filming we learnt that you may have to film things more than just once to get the camera shots and movements to flow together and almost look natural. We also learnt in filming that the tripods are good for if you want the camera to move and are very essential if you want to zoom in and out of any action as they will keep the camera completely still. During our editing process we learnt many things as all of my group and I were new to Imovie (which we used as our editing software), we learnt how to import our videos onto Imovie and how to make transitions from cut to cut.
Throughout the editing process we each had a fair part by sharing the editing out and each giving ideas. Editing we spent the most time with but we learnt from doing this that sometimes its more effective too not add too much editing into your film as it makes the film loose its realism when doing so.

We managed to manage our time well by filming all the main scenes in our filming lesson, which meant that, we didn't have to mess around with editing the lighting and worrying about clothing of actors. However we realized whilst editing that our dialogue didn't look quite right so we as a group decided to add in a separate part of dialogue which is made to look like it was on a different day by the dialogue all in past tense looking back on the events this was effective as it brought realism to the film and added tension and questions to the film.
